In folders and leather-lined cases in half red morocco. Set of two volumes with soft printed cream covers. Minor spotting on covers and edges. Pages unstained and uncut. Good condition of the contents decorated with black and white drawings in-text by Marcel FAGET. Handwritten letter signed by Raymond RITTER and addressed to André DUSSERT (1973) attached to the lot.
Volume 1 [with Jean de Jaurgain] : Contents decorated with XVI plates in black and white as well as 3 folding genealogies out of text.
Volume 2 : Corned with XXIV black and white hors-texte plates. Ex-libris stamped in green on the last page.
FIRST EDITION. One of 100 numbered copies on Lafuma cream vellum (I to XCV).
Preface by the Duke of Lévis-Mirepoix.
Monumental historical and genealogical sum on the house of Gramont, undertaken in 1947 by R. RITTER, to complete a work started by Jean de JAURGAIN, stopped by his death in 1920, and continued by Jean DUFAU de MALUQUER. The text of J. de JAURGAIN occupies a part of Volume I (The title page of Volume I bears: Jean de Jaurgain and Raymond Ritter, that of Volume II: Raymond Ritter alone). The drawings of the seals and coats of arms, as well as the plan of Bidache, are by Marcel FAGET. This work received the Broquette-Gonin Prize of the French Academy.
