Binding of the period full marbled basane. Smooth spine decorated with a double net in place of the nerves, golden boxes, red morocco title piece. Hair styles and rubbed corners. Three marbled slices. Clean and fresh interior. tear without missing on page 156 of the first volume, first counter guard partly detached.

Voltaire's book was first printed the same year under the title The Princess of Babylon by Cramer in Geneva. Original edition of Les Souvenirs de Madame de Caylus, published by Voltaire, who writes in the preface of this book: "Everything that Madame la Marquise de Caylus tells is true" (page V). Interesting memoirs on the court of Louis XIV and the life of Madame de Maintenon.
