In grey paper slipcases, edged with mahogany buffalo. Set of two volumes with modern mahogany half-buffle bindings with corners. Spine with five nerves, with gilt titles and author's mentions spread over two brown morocco pieces. Endpapers mounted on hinges of the same leather. Ex-libris gilt on the endpapers. Covers and spine very well preserved. Nice freshness of the papers. Excellent condition of the contents decorated with black and white headbands and footnotes as well as black and white illustrations by M.W.F. BURGER.
LIMITED EDITION. One of 1700 numbered copies on Montgolfier wove paper.
Copy (volume I) enriched with an AUTOGRAPHIC SENDER SIGNED by the author to volume I: " Mr Thomas, in friendly memory of the author of these volumes, his colleague and former president of the Cercle des Libraires, Lancey, July 1953 ".
Superb bound copies in excellent condition dedicated to the unfortunate soldiers of the Imperial Grade Army who were taken prisoner during the Spanish Campaign between 1808 and 1814. The story, coupled with beautiful black and white plates, will enlighten you a lot about the conditions of detention in wartime.
