Translated from the English. Volume 2: Containing the continuation of the most remarkable events of the reign of Charles II, that is, from 1664 to 1677. Volume 3: Containing the rest of the reign of Charles II; that is, everything that happened from 1678 until 1685, in which he died; Volume 4: Containing the reign of King James II from 1685 until 1689; Volume 5, 6 and 7: Memoirs to serve the history of Great Britain, under the reigns of William and Mary, William III, and Anne I. Binding full blond basane. Spine with finely spine with raised bands decorated with golden boxes, red title and tomaison pieces. Golden lace on the fields. Three red speckled slices. Very clean and fresh interior. The first volume of the English edition of History of his own times was published in 1724. The French translation followed in 1725. It was not until 1734, however, that the rest of the Memoirs appeared in English with the French translation in 1735. Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4 are from the second French edition while volumes 5, 6 and 7 are from the first French edition. The author, the Scot Gilbert Burnet of Leyes-Cromont (1643-1715), Anglican Bishop of Salisbury in 1689, had a long career as a clergyman and cosmopolitan traveller before receiving honours and prebends from the new English power.
