At the head of this new book, entitled the Decameron, a Greek word meaning the ten days, Boccaccio placed the description of the Florence plague. The description of the delicious countryside of Florence, where these joyful hermits had taken refuge, gave the author the opportunity to show all the riches of the highest and most graceful style at the same time. Excerpts from the Notice on the life and works of Boccaccio by Francisque Reynard, a magnificent ensemble with a rich iconography.
