Although written in Québec, Maria Chapdelaine's first publication will be in France, in 1913, in the daily series[nbsp]Le temps. In the 1930s, the novel was used as a propaganda tool to encourage French-Canadian settlers to stay in the country and encourage colonization... The novel was an immense commercial success and Louis Hémon remains the emblematic writer of French-speaking Canada by his mythical evocation of the humble peasant pioneers of the early 20th century and of the Quebec countryside.
Very good condition.
