Two volumes in one slipcase. Contemporary Jansenist binding in full cyan morocco signed Meunier. Lining framed in morocco and embroidered silk with floral decoration. Four-nerved spine. Title and all edges gilt. Covers and spine preserved. Slight rubbing (1mm) to upper two nerves. Spine slightly oiled. Off-text illustrations.
A unique numbered copy on Japon paper, enriched - in addition to the etchings in three proofs present in the copies of this edition - with intermediate states and pure etchings purchased by the first owner of the work from various sources, including the engraver Monziès.
The owner's handwritten notes - dated - are inscribed on the inside back cover of the second volume.
A very fine edition of this text by Lesage - the author of Gil Blas - originally published in 1707.
Superb copy
