Period full red morocco binding. Spine with finely decorated spine with raised bands with small golden irons. Triple gilded framing net on the boards. All edges gilt. Large inner golden lace. A portrait-frontispiece of Horace on China by Augustin de Saint-Aubin. Rare freckles.
It has been enriched with a long autographed letter signed by Jules Janin, author of this translation.
Provenance: ex-libris engraved by A. Lalauze, with the motto "Mieux que pourra", monogram "E.L."[E. Lalauze?] in a cartouche.
Beautiful copy in a master binder, unsigned.
