Novel in which Zola presents his natalist theses. The book is difficult to read nowadays, as its conceptions are so outdated today. Zola had presented his natalist theses in an article in 1896. He mentioned the project of a novel on this theme. He proposed to speak out against the voluntary limitation of births, which in his view caused a moral and social tragedy. The novel is about a strict and rigorous opposition between the Wheat couple and their twelve children, embodying happiness, and those who voluntarily limit themselves to a small offspring, or even those who totally refuse it.

In good condition.
