Magnificently adapted by Luis Bunuel, in 1977, under the title Cet obscur objet du désir, La Femme et le Pantin is a novel by Pierre Louÿs published in 1898.
This book burns with a passion and perversity pushed to their climax. During the Seville Carnival, Frenchman André Stévenol fell under the spell of a young Andalusian girl, Conception Perez. They exchanged a quick and promising sign and immediately sought to meet again. André confesses this situation to his friend Don Mateo who jumps out and decides, in order to warn him, to tell him about his painful adventure with the young woman of whom he was the puppet.
