Full vermilion morocco binding. Spine with ornate nerves. Gilded and dotted fillets in framing on the boards. King blue morocco lining lined with a floral garland. Double guards. All edges gilt. Binding signed MERCIER Sr. de Cuzin. First print of E. MEISSONIER's illustration: portraits of the author and dedicatee (S. Lavalette) and 40 woodcut vignettes in the text.
Third edition, final, increased by 12 unpublished tales. These spicy and spicy texts are the work of the Commander of the Reims Guard, son-in-law of the widow Clicquot, who had published the collection under the veil of anonymity.
