On the first cover, an important polychrome composition in incised leather depicting a country scene, a peasant leading his cow and his sheep on a path leading far away to a village. Inside a plant border with red mosaic flowers, lining and silk guards printed with floral motifs. Gilded edges on witnesses. Cover and back preserved. Binding signed S. DAVID. Spine a little lightened.
Edition illustrated with sketches drawn and engraved on wood and copper in the text by Auguste LEPÈRE, evoking both the physiognomy of the Norman province and the bourgeois and peasant customs of the end of the 19th century.
