Full navy blue morocco binding. Spine with finely spine with raised bands decorated with golden boxes. All golden slices on witnesses. Nets and castors framing the boards. counterplates lined with blue-grey morocco decorated with a large motif with small iron framed by a listel mosaic of marine morocco. Blankets and spines kept. Binding signed RIBAN. Perfect interior.
The first separate edition of this short story was published in the Revue des Deux Mondes in 1840. It is illustrated with 19 drawings by Alphonse LALAUZE.
LIMITED DRAW to 525 numbered copies This one of the 62 copies on Japan with a separate reprint with note of illustrations (the one of the first header vignette is also on laid paper).
SINGLE EXPLIARY enriched with the subscription form, a graphite drawing and Indian ink wash, and two original watercolours signed by the illustrator, the first of which is accompanied by a pencil copy signed by Lalauze to M. de Claye.
