Abstract: "I don't know anyone who didn't like M. de Musset's literature, and I say it, I like it infinitely": it was in these terms that Balzac greeted the publication of the News. Published in the Revue des Deux Mondes between 1837 and 1839, they tell stories of the heart that are alternately light and serious, funny and melancholy. Dandies and grisettes, mischief, stolen kisses, furtive rendezvous, heart-wrenching farewells: we can guess all the fantasy of the author's liaisons in these tales featuring a man in love with two women (The Two Mistresses), an artist lover (The Son of Titian), or a penniless boy determined to collect one hundred thousand écus to marry the one he loves (Croisilles)... Borrowing at the same time from the classic novel of analysis, the naughty tale and the fairy tale, Musset reaches here the high mastery of his art of prose.
