In a lined case and in a striped half-box shirt with small overlaps. Dark brown full box binding. First cover decorated with two inlays of pink shagreen set with inlaid wood scrolls, author's and artist's name and title in beige letters, dark brown box edge lining, grey suede endpapers. Not trimmed. Cover and spine preserved. Binding signed M. J. Guian-Milliaud. Rare and lightly freckled.
Illustrated edition of 23 compositions in the text by Jean-Émile LABOUREUR, interpreted on wood by Georges Beltrand and printed in 5 or 8 passages. The last illustration represents a self-portrait of the artist.
LIMITED EDITION OF 250 COPIES ON BANK WOVE PAPER, PRINTED IN BLACK AND GREEN. ONE OF THE FIRST 50 COPIES ENRICHED WITH A SERIES OF ILLUSTRATIONS ON CHINA, THIS ONE INCLUDING IN ADDITION THE "DECOMPOSITION OF THE PLATE PAGE N° 13 IN 7 PASSAGES" ALSO ON CHINA.
This book, published posthumously for the author and the illustrator, is the only one that offers illustrations by Laboureur not engraved by him.
Superb copy, mounted on tabs, very well bound by Marie-Josée Guian for her own account.
