In a lined slipcase and a half red morocco folder with small overlaps. Bound in full red morocco. Large geometrical gilt and silver decoration on the boards. Smooth spine with gilt title. All edges gilt. Cream calf lining decorated with circular gilt fillets, beige moire endpapers, double gilt paper endpapers. Cover and spine preserved. Binding signed A. CERUTTI.
Edition illustrated with 98 colour illustrations by Maurice DENIS, including the portrait of Ronsard out of the text, woodcut by Jacques Beltrand. A box concerning the edition, enclosed with the copy, specifies that the sudden death of Maurice Denis did not allow him to finish the compositions on pages 148 & 149, which are only sketched.
LIMITED EDITION OF 152 NUMBERED COPIES. THIS IS ONE OF THE 112 FIRST COPIES ON JAPAN WITH ONE OF THE FIFTEEN ADDITIONAL SUITES OF COLOUR ILLUSTRATIONS ON JAPAN.
UNIQUE ISSUE, ENRICHED WITH THREE ORIGINAL AQUARELLES: the one on p. 93, another with a pencil sketch on the leaf of the ode on pp. 107-108 (different from the final illustration) and a DOUBLE FLORAL COMPOSITION pasted in fine.
