In a lined slipcase and a half-rhodoïd folder with small overlaps. Bound in ebony morocco with chocolate suede boards, with on the first board a large rectangle of granite paper with title and date of the edition mosaicked in brown morocco, initials on squares of paper from an IGN map of Savoy. Smooth spine decorated with small rectangles of brown and light blue box, these with the initials of the title, name of the author and date in gold letters. Gilt head. Cover and spine preserved. Binding signed P.- L. MARTIN - 1961.
This is the first binding of this type made by Pierre-Lucien Martin who made similar ones on other works by Simone de Beauvoir, in the following years.
FIRST EDITION. One of the 30 first copies numbered on vellum of Holland van Gelder.
