This is a short novel about a blind woman named Gertrude who is taken in by a Protestant pastor and his wife. The pastor teaches Gertrude to read and to appreciate the beauty of the natural world. Eventually, however, Gertrude falls in love with the pastor, and her love is not reciprocated.

A fine copy.
