In 1962, after a serious illness, Ionesco wrote Le Roi se meurt en quinze jours ( The King Dies in Fifteen Days). In this parable-like work, he and Berenger create a fantasy king whose kingdom is hit by a bizarre cataclysm. In this hitherto flourishing land, everything goes wrong and slowly dies, people and plants alike. Ill, the king has lost all power over beings and things, which disappear as he can no longer enjoy them.
Very fine condition.
