ORIGINAL EDITION of one of Michaux's most beautiful texts, written following the death of his wife Lou [Marie-Louise], who was transformed into a living torch after approaching an electric radiator, wearing a synthetic dress. She died in hospital after a month of suffering and courage. The publication was handled by Michaux's closest friend, Jacques Olivier Fourcade, under the publishing name "J. Lambert & Cie". This bookseller-publisher had already founded his own publishing house in 1929 and hired Michaux as a literary adviser, but he had to sell his business in 1931 due to the crisis. Michaux had the distribution stopped and forbade any reissue during his lifetime.

LIMITED EDITION of 750 copies on Marais vellum, of which 100 are offprints.

Very good condition.
