Abstract: "The myth of Aurelia who divinized the woman is opposed to the myth of Pandora, who denounces her as the instrument of all human misfortune. The short prose story entitled Pandora, which contemporary editors have linked to the Daughters of Fire, suggests that the ideal contemplated at the end of Aurelia has vanished and the disenchanted dreamer has been returned to his distress. If the first part of Pandora, written in 1853, is written with casual verve, the second part, probably completed in 1854, attests to the writer's sentimental disarray and intellectual debacle. The myth of Aurelia, who divinized woman, is opposed to the myth of Pan-Dora, which denounces her as the instrument of all human misfortune. Gérard de Nerval, who identified himself in thought with Faust, Adoniram, Orpheus, compares himself to the most pitiful of these heroes of knowledge, to Prometheus, the defeated titan, humiliated in his pride and bruised in his flesh, who, with his flank torn apart, waits in anguish for the uncertain hour of deliverance".
