Red semi-percaline bradel binding. Smooth spine with gilt fleuron and brown morocco piece on which the title and tomaison are gilt. Double gilt fillets at the heel. Brown cover and illustrated in colors preserved in good condition. Twenty first pages burnished. Nice freshness of the rest of the contents. Contents decorated with black and white off-text illustrations. Nice copy.
Just because we were in the midst of the first world conflict does not mean that it was impossible to conceal the misery it brought. This book demonstrates this through its superb illustrations, which in their time allowed the French to smile again, if only for a moment. Making a mockery of the War was already a positive thing. Laughing at the enemy's expense was even more so. It was fair game.
