In bordered slipcase. The boards are decorated with red and silver paper, the poet's signature in black in the center, each board covered with altuglas. Smooth red box and streaked morocco spine, with the artists' names pushed in silver, the title and the poet's name in black. Gilded head. Decorated silver paper lining, deep red suede endpapers. Cover and spine preserved. Binding signed Henri MERCHER - 1958.
Original collective edition, containing twelve poems by Éluard, autographed by the author and decorated with 16 original engravings and lithographs, in black and in color, by Jean Arp, André Beaudin, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Oscar Dominguez, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, Valentine Hugo, Henri Laurens, Fernand Léger, André Masson, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Yves Tanguy and Jacques Villon.
LIMITED EDITION of 120 copies on Rives wove paper, signed by the artists, with the exception of Léger, Laurens and Tanguy, who died before the book was published. The copperplate, wood and stone have been removed after the print run.
