Navy blue half-chagrin binding with corners. Spine with nerves decorated with golden florets. Blue-green head. Golden fillet on the boards. Very clean interior. 500 plates (300 in colours, gold and silver and 200 in monochrome) forming the last 5 volumes and 12 full-page pattern tables in Volume I. Falling error for the 5 volumes of boards (numbered II to VI), but together well complete. Very rare and slight freckles in some text vol. Small color transfers with small gaps sometimes on some boards. Slight addictions on the second plate of volume I and on the jaw of volume IV boards
Auguste Racinet's Le Costume historique (1876-1888) is the most in-depth study ever published on the history of costume, fashion and style from the ancient world to the 19th century. By its scope and the amount of knowledge gathered, this book remains to this day a unique experience.
