Remarkable colour illustration by François-Louis Schmied. The line of the plates was engraved on wood; the painting was executed, according to the originals, in the lacquering workshops of Jean Dunand.
This illustration consists of an illustrated cover, a frontispiece, 7 full-page illustrations, a large folding plate forming a triptych, 29 horizontal bands of which 22 are large, most of them headed, 32 ornate lettering or small vignettes in the text, 6 small vertical bands and numerous coloured and gilded bands and letters.
This edition was entirely produced by F.-L. Schmied, who designed the typography and printed it on his presses.
UNIQUE EDITION OF 170 COPIES NUMBERED AND SIGNED BY SCHMIED. THIS ONE ONE OF THE 150 COPIES ON PAPER OF THE ARCHES MANUFACTURES.
Sucre d'Amour is the counterpart to L'Histoire de la Princesse Boudour, both in terms of the print run and the colouring process, and is one of the major editions of F.-L. Schmied's career.
In good condition.
