A short story published and translated into Russian in 1880 in a St Petersburg magazine "Le messager de l'Europe", then published in France in May 1900 in "La Grande revue". To imagine this short story, Emile Zola would have been inspired by elements of the life of his writer friend Alphonse Daudet Six years before the writing of[nbsp]L'Oeuvre, this short story reveals the problems of inspiration, talent, but also the system of commissions and salons.
